Dallas Wilson Set to Make Florida Football Debut Against Texas
Florida freshman wide receiver Dallas Wilson is scheduled to make his collegiate debut against No. 9 Texas on Saturday.
Wilson has been out since suffering a left foot injury in the first week of August during preseason camp. The injury had him in a protective boot for weeks. He returned to practice after Florida’s 26-7 loss to No. 4 Miami, and the Gators’ staff anticipates he will be ready to make his debut in The Swamp.
“For him [Dallas Wilson] to be able to practice last week and be available is a big deal,” Florida coach Billy Napier said. “We’ll be getting the report each day in terms of what the numbers look like and where he’s at. But he feels really good and so far so good.”
Napier has been high on Wilson even before he went down with his injury.
“But, look, Dallas is going to make our team better,” Napier said at SEC Media Day in July.
The 6-foot-3, 213-pound wideout from Tampa shined in the spring for the Gators, exciting fans and teammates. Wilson tied an Orange and Blue game record with 195 yards for two touchdowns on 10 receptions, doing it all as just a freshman.
“It’s great, y’know, we can practice with him. I’m excited to continue to grow,” DJ Lagway said. “Every day I get to throw to him is a fun day, so I’m excited to get out there and throw with him today and continue to work on our chemistry.”
Wilson was a top-50 recruit in the 2025 class and a four-star recruit, according to 247Sports and ESPN. He originally signed with Oregon, but decommitted from his letter of intent on Dec. 19 and committed and signed with Florida three days later. He enrolled at UF in late January to begin spring practices.
The Gators hope he can bring some life to their underwhelming passing offense. Florida hasn’t had a receiver go for more than 80 yards in a game this season. They’ve only had two passes of more than 30 yards, one of them being Vernell Brown III’s one-handed grab against LIU. Brown III has been Florida’s leading receiver and Lagway’s go-to target, but Gator fans hope Wilson can help expand the passing attack that only put up 61 yards in the air against Miami.
“Every time I look up, I’m like, ‘Is he about to catch that?’ and yes. I’m like ‘Good job,’” Gator edge rusher George Gumbs Jr. said back in August, according to Swamp247’s Zach Goodall. “But Dallas Wilson, he’s definitely doing a good job, he’s a good standout player to me.”
Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. on ESPN and on 98.1-FM, 103.7-FM/850-AM WRUF.
