Ricky Pearsall Ruled Out as 49ers Face Rams on ‘TNF’

October 2, 2025

The San Francisco 49ers are at Sofi Stadium in Inglewood, California, to face the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday Night Football this week.

Former University of Florida receiver Ricky Pearsall is out with a knee injury, and another former UF receiver Demarcus Robinson will look to gain a bigger role in the 49ers’ offense tonight (8:15 p.m. Amazon Prime Video) against his former team.

The 49ers enter the game with multiple key players injured. Not only Pearsall, but starting quarterback Brock Purdy is out due to a toe injury. And starting receiver Jauan Jennings is also out due to ankle and rib injuries. This goes alongside George Kittle who is on IR due to a hamstring injury and Nick Bosa who is out for the year due to a torn ACL.

The good news is the 49ers (3-1) are fifth in both yards gained and yards allowed so far this season, so they still have a good team to compete.

However, they are coming off of a home loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.  Mac Jones will start at QB for the 49ers once more. In the two games he has played, Jones has completed 66% of his passes for 563 yards and four touchdowns. Tonight will be his third start of the season.

Meanwhile, Christian McCaffrey looks to be back as his old self as he has 530 yards from scrimmage and leads the team in receptions and receiving yards with 31 receptions and 305 yards.

The Rams (3-1) are aiming for another Super Bowl run, as they have one of the best passing offenses and defenses in the league. Matthew Stafford is No. 2 in the league in passing yards with 1,114. One of the main reasons for that is the incredible season Puka Nacua is having. He leads the league in receptions with 42 and receiving yards with 503. He is more than 100 yards better than the second-place receiver. He is on pace to break the all-time reception and receiving record this season with 179 receptions and 2,138 yards. Stafford also has Davante Adams to throw to.

The key for each  team is to find a way to take away the other’s key players — McCaffrey and  Nacua. Also important to note, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan is 10-7 against Rams’ coach Sean McVay in this NFC West rivalry.
