Lawson Named to Baseball America’s National Team of the Week
After a productive week at the plate, Florida infielder Brendan Lawson was named as the starting shortstop on Baseball America’s National Team of the Week Tuesday.
This honor makes Lawson the first Gator this season to be mentioned on Baseball America’s weekly team list. In last week’s action, Lawson started all five games for the Gators, recording five extra base hits with four leaving the yard and one triple.
He also totaled four RBIs and four walks, going 5-for-17 on the week. In Sunday’s walk-off win over High Point University, Lawson added to his growing list of records. He posted his first-career multi-homer game with two long balls and finished scoring a team-high three runs.
The Canadian sophomore currently leads the team this season in an impressive eight categories, including home runs (8) and RBIs (25). Lawson has reached base in all 17 games this year and been a crucial part of Kevin O’Sullivan’s team.
“I think Brendan is one of the best hitters in college baseball. Period,” Landon Stripling said earlier this season.
The sophomore ranks second in the SEC in slugging percentage (.982) and eighth in batting average (.418). Nationally, Lawson sits at 10th in slugging and 12th in home runs.
This is also not Lawson’s first honor of the season. Most recently, the left-hander was named SEC Player of the Week on March 2. With his performances, Lawson has continued to headline Baseball America’s latest ranking of the top collegiate prospects for the 2027 MLB Draft.
Lawson and the Gators begin this week at home against No. 20 Florida State on Tuesday, followed by their first SEC matchup of the season, a three-game series against South Carolina starting Friday.
