Gainesville Football Mourns Loss of Assistant Coach Quintavis Styles
Gainesville assistant football coach Quintavis Styles died at UF Health Shands Hospital on Tuesday, as first reported by the Gainesville Sun’s Noah Ram. The cause of death has yet to be determined.
Styles was a 31-year-old Colorado native who moved to Gainesville with first-year coach Ashour Peera. He played for Peera at Gateway High School in Aurora, Colorado, from 2013-14. Styles then played at the University of Northern Colorado from 2015-19.
He held several jobs in education during his time in Colorado, also serving as director of community relations for Colorado State.
According to GHS athletic director Phillip Knight, Styles went unconscious at the school before paramedics took him to Shands where attempts to revive him failed.
Styles’ death comes during a period of turmoil for the Gainesville football program. Junior varsity coach Rick Rone died on April 7 from a heart attack at the age of 56. Senior kicker Sebastian Jimenez was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Aug. 22 and sent to a detention center in Texas before returning to Florida and rejoining the team. Then on Sept. 18, Peera was placed on administrative leave by the school district.
The Hurricanes (2-4) are in an open week and are set to play their next game Oct. 9 at Ocala Lake Weir.
