Florida’s Skye Blakely, Leanne Wong Named to World Championships Team
Florida sophomore Skye Blakely and recent graduate Leanne Wong were named to the four-member roster for the 2025 World Championships, set for Oct. 19–25 in Jakarta, Indonesia, USA Gymnastics announced Wednesday.
Blakely and Wong will compete with 17-year-old Dulcy Caylor, a Gator commit. Caylor secured an automatic berth by winning the all-around at the World Team Trials. Arkansas gymnast Joscelyn Roberson rounds out the four-member team. The selection committee named Jayla Hang and Ashlee Sullivan non-traveling alternates.
The Jakarta meet will feature only individual events, which is standard in the year after the Olympics. The Americans compete in qualifications on Oct. 21, followed by the all-around final on Oct. 22 and apparatus finals on Oct. 24–25.
At the trials in Crossville, Tennessee, Wong recorded the best vault average, while Blakely led the field on uneven bars (14.450) and balance beam (14.050). With Caylor already securing an automatic berth, their performances helped them earn selection from the Athlete Selection Committee.
Blakely, a 20-year-old from Frisco, Texas, and a five-year member of the U.S. Senior National Team, is set for her third World Championships appearance. The 5-foot-4 gymnast helped the United States win gold in 2022 and 2023. At the 2025 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships in August, she shared the uneven bars title and finished second on balance beam. Her selection continues a quick comeback from the torn Achilles she suffered at the 2024 Olympic Trials. Just 199 days later, she returned to competition with Florida, debuting on uneven bars and scoring a collegiate-best 9.95 at the SEC Championships.
UF coach Jenny Rowland said there was ‘zero doubt’ Blakely would return successfully from her injury. Wong, an Olympic alternate in 2024, added that Blakely showed composure throughout her comeback.
“I definitely woke up and was like, ‘Skye, you have to get it done,’” Blakely said after learning she had earned a spot on the World Championships team.
Wong, a 22-year-old from Overland Park, Kansas, will make her fourth World Championships appearance. The 5-foot-1 gymnast is the first U.S. woman since Kerri Strug to qualify for four in a row. She also has four World medals, including all-around silver and floor exercise bronze in 2021, and was part of the U.S. gold-medal teams in 2022 and 2023.
At the 2025 U.S. Championships, Wong won the vault title and finished second in the all-around. She ended her Gator career with 29 All-America honors, the third-most in program history, and recorded three perfect 10.0s in her final season. Wong’s trademark motto is “train insane or remain the same.”
Florida continues to play a major role in elite gymnastics. Three of the four athletes on this year’s roster, Blakely, Wong and Roberson, competed in NCAA programs last season. Of the Gators enrolled at UF, Blakely is among five to compete at a World Championships. Kayla DiCello (2021, 2023 replacement athlete), eMjae Frazier (2021) and Riley McCusker (2018) also represented the United States at past World Championships.
With both Blakely and Wong back on the international stage, Florida will again showcase its presence at the sport’s highest level. The pair now turn their attention to Jakarta, aiming to add more international success to the Gators’ growing gymnastics legacy.
