Two Former Gators Join Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame
The Florida Gators have been chomping at the Georgia Bulldogs throughout time. The rivalry has existed for over a century, but the one thing the Gators and Bulldogs share is the Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame. This year, Brandon James and Todd Johnson have been inducted into the Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame.
Johnson was a standout safety for the Florida Gators from 1999 to 2002. He was a two-time first-team All-SEC selection in 2000 and 2001. Johnson finished his college career with 284 tackles and nine interceptions. He was a senior team captain in 2002. His performance, particularly his 102 tackles and five interceptions in 2000, was crucial to the Gators’ defensive efforts.
Johnson was drafted into the NFL by the Bears in 2003 as a fourth-round pick. His ability to recover and return to play in subsequent seasons demonstrated his resilience. Following his NFL career, Johnson has remained connected to the Gainesville community. He has participated in university-related events, including a benefit for pediatric oncology hosted by former teammate Johnny Townsend at UF Health.

A little later on in Gator football history, Brandon James played for the Gators from 2006 to 2009. During that time, the team won two national championships and two SEC championships. Brandon was known as an explosive return specialist, setting four SEC and 11 Florida records. As a result, he won the 2008 All-American and the SEC Special Teams Player of the Year.
As a return specialist, James’s ability to create explosive, momentum-shifting plays electrified Gainesville crowds and provided a special-teams threat that was a major asset for the Gators. Both players have made a substantial impact in college football and the Gainesville community itself.
The two will be honored by the Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame located in Jacksonville, where the two rivals go head-to-head every year (though they’ll have to find a new location next year). It was established in 1995 to highlight individuals who have made a substantial impact on the two SEC universities. Every year, two individuals from each university—whether that be players, coaches, or administrators—are inducted for their significant impact on the schools.
The Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Luncheon will take place on Oct. 31, the weekend before the game. The induction is part of the annual “Florida-Georgia Weekend,” a tradition now added to the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.
