UF Position Preview: Linebackers

As the Gators prepare for the start of their 2018 football season, much improvement can already be seen in the strength of each individual player and the bonds that have been made on the team, including at the linebacker position.

Increased speed and endurance

This season you can expect a lot of change in the speed and endurance of the linebackers. Director of football strength and conditioning, Nick Savage, has helped build this team up enormously over the summer.

Jeremiah Moon says, “he’s turning everyone into a bunch of animals.” Coach Savage is said to come in every day with high energy and not allow anyone to slack during their workouts. In addition, each player is expected to rest the correct way during their workouts.

David Reese also had much to say about Coach Savage being a large influence on the team’s improvement since the spring.

Coach Savage is instilling toughness into the team and it’s making a large difference already in fall camp

Team Bonding

This year you can expect the Gators defense to be closer than ever.

David Reese says, “our defense is more bonded than previous years. I really can’t wait.”

Coach Mullen has integrated many team bonding activities that are bringing the team closer together than ever before. Mullen has stressed a system called big brother/little brother this year. This bonding activity allows freshmen to become better accumulated to college with the help of an upperclassman.

Bringing more heat

The linebackers are bringing a lot of heat this 2018 season in defensive coordinator Todd Grantham’s aggressive 3-4 scheme.

Jeremiah Moon says, ” we’re an attacking defense and we’re a lot less conservative.”

Overall

You can expect an improvement over the Gators football as a whole this year. With increased training, team bonding and a lot more aggressiveness, the linebackers are ready to take on this upcoming season.
