The Florida baseball team was unable to take an SEC rubber match for the second straight week Sunday afternoon. After dropping a game 10-1 on Saturday, the Gators fell again to Missouri on the road 5-3 on Sunday.
Florida would actually take an early lead in this one after Josh Tobias went yard to deep right center field in the second inning. This homer was Tobias’ fourth on the season.
Florida head coach Kevin O’Sullivan talked about the team’s performance after the game.
“We jumped out to a 1-0 lead and they did a good job all weekend pitching-wise so credit them. For us, offensively we’ve got some work to do. Obviously, it wasn’t a great weekend for us offensively. It’s hard to win a lot of games when you get five hits. We have some good offensive players, we just have to go home and get to work.“
Missouri would take a lead that they wouldn’t let go of in the fifth inning when they scored all their runs. Gator starting and losing pitcher Dane Dunning was chased in the inning after an RBI single by Alex Del Rio and an RBI hit from Brent Peel. Reliever Bobby Poyner came in and gave up a three run home run to shortstop Ryan Howard.
The Gators got two runs in the ninth inning on an RBI triple by Tobias and a sacrifice fly by JJ Schwarz but it was too little, too late.
UF (24-9, 6-6 SEC) will take on Stetson at home on Tuesday before taking on South Carolina at home this weekend.
