A tough Gator hoops defeat but also a nice hoops win; Gator baseball opens its season, NBA All Star Game, and more in our Friday Sports Update…

** The Florida women’s basketball team gets a big 51-48 road win at Georgia Thursday night but the news not as good for the Gator men as they drop a 62-61 decision at home to Ole Miss.

** Gator baseball opens its season this weekend with a three game home series against Rhode Island.   Florida softball opens its home slate this weekend by hosting Iowa and NC State.

** A ton of other Gator teams are in action this weekend with gymnastics, track, tennis, men’s golf among the sports seeing activity.

** The NBA All Star Game and its festivities take place this weekend; the actual game itself is Sunday.

** In area high school boy’s basketball regionals, Gainesville High, Eastside High and PK Yonge advance with wins last night.
