The Atlanta Braves got another strong start from Kris Medlen as Atlanta downs Miami 3-0 on Wednesday.   Medlen pitched eight innings and improves his record to 9-1.

In other National League games, Cincinnati’s magic number to clinch the NL Central is three after the Reds edge Chicago 6-5.   San Francisco’s magic number to clinch the NL West is five after beating Colorado 7-1.

In other games, St.Louis leads the second wild card by two games over Los Angeles after a 5-0 Cardinal win over Houston and the Dodgers splitting a doubleheader with Washington.   Milwaukee downs Pittsburgh 3-1; Arizona tops San Diego 6-2 and Philadelphia nips New York 3-2.

In the American League, New York sweeps a doubleheader from Toronto 2-1 and 4-2 that leaves them in first place in the AL East by a half game over Baltimore, a 3-1 winner at Seattle.   The Yankees play Toronto today while the O’s have the day off.

In the AL Central, Detroit now trails Chicago by two games after a 6-2 win over Oakland as Justin Verlander wins his 15th game.   Chicago lost to Kansas City 3-0.

Tampa Bay pounds Boston 13-3 but loses ground in the AL East as they are now six and a half games behind New York.   Baltimore now has the wild card lead with Oakland leading the second wild card by three and a half games.

Minnesota beats Cleveland 6-4 and Texas downs Los Angeles 6-2.
