The Tampa Bay Rays have moved to within four and a half games of American League East leader New York after beating Kansas City 5-1 Monday night.   The Rays are 9-2 in their last 11 games and lead the AL wild card chase as well.

In other AL games, the Yankees lose to AL Central leader Chicago 9-6 as the White Sox now lead the division by two games over idle Detroit.   Texas downs Baltimore 5-1; Seattle beats Cleveland 5-3 and Minnesota shuts down Oakland 7-2.

In the National League, Washington tops Atlanta 5-4 in extra innings to increase its lead to six games over the Braves in the NL East.   Atlanta still leads the wild card chase however.

In other NL games, Colorado tops New York 3-1; San Diego downs Pittsburgh 3-1; Miami rocks Arizona 12-3; Milwaukee beats Chicago 9-5; Philadelphia hammers Cincinnati 12-5 and San Francisco takes over first place from Los Angeles in the NL West with a 2-1 over the Dodgers.
