** The NFL regular season opens with defending Super Bowl champion Seattle at home beating the Green Bay Packers 36-16. All the other teams will open play Sunday and Monday.
** In college football last night, Arizona escapes with a 26-23 win over Larry Coker coached Texas-San Antonio.
** In Gator news, the Florida soccer team travels today to face Florida State. Florida is 3-1 on the young season and will face a stiff test in nationally ranked FSU.
** Speaking of Tallahassee, an attorney there says FSU is investigating the sexual assault case involving quarterback Jameis Winston to see if he violated the student code of conduct. FSU would not confirm an investigation was taking place.
** A lot of high school football games in our area tonight with just about everyone in action. PK Yonge opens its season against Bell after having its opener against Williston postponed due to weather.
** In baseball, Toronto downs slumping Tampa Bay 7-4 and the New York Mets edge Miami 4-3. This weekend, the Rays host Baltimore while Miami hosts Atlanta.
