New Florida football coach Jim McElwain hires another coach off his old Western Kentucky coaching staff. 58 year old Greg Nord who was a running backs coach for McElwain, has been brought to the Gator staff to coach the tight end position and the special teams.
Nord has been an assistant coach for 35 years, and does have experience with the SEC. He is a Kentucky alum where he played and also coached for a number of years. Coach Nord has also made stops atn Georgia Tech, Louisville, Eastern Carolina and one season at Illinois. It was at Louisville where Coach McElwain and Coach Nord first worked together, and the two bonded immediately.
Most would say the switch from a team like Western Kentucky to a big name team like Florida would not be an easy transition. But Nord is no rookie when it come to SEC football and the Florida Gators. He played and coached at Kentucky and from that experience he knows Florida is a top program in the SEC.
Coming into spring ball, Nord says no positions are set in stone; players will have to prove themselves if they want to get their chance to play.
Spring practice begins in March.
