Newberry Girls Lose State Final; PK Yonge Plays For Title Today

After being down by as many as 23 points, the Newberry girls basketball team staged a furious rally in the Class 1A state championship game on Wednesday but today it is Ponce De Leon High School that is celebrating a state title after beating the Panthers 55-52.

In fact, the Panthers had a chance to tie the game with just under three seconds to go but they missed two free throws and the Pirates hung on for the win.

Today in Lakeland the PK Yonge girls team tries for its second state title in the last three years when it faces Parkway Academy in the Class 3A title game.

The Buchholz girls are in the Class 7A state semifinals and play Friday against Haines City.
