Braves Rally To Win; So Do Rays

Chipper Jones hits a three run homer in the ninth inning to cap a huge Atlanta rally and the Braves defeat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-7 Sunday.   The Braves got five runs in the ninth inning to get the win and they now lead the National League wild card race by three games over St.Louis.

In other NL games, Colorado nips San Diego 11-10; San Francisco downs Chicago 7-5; Los Angeles rallies to beat Arizona 5-4; Stephen Strasburg is effective again as Washington downs St.Louis 4-2; New York beats Miami 5-1 to sweep the series; Cincinnati downs Houston 5-3 and Milwaukee beats slumping Pittsburgh 12-8.

In the American League, Baltimore pulls to within two games of New York in the AL East after beating the Yankees 8-3.   New York goes to Tampa Bay tonight after the Rays beat Toronto 9-4 as David Price wins his 17th game.

In other action, the red hot Oakland A’s lead the AL wild card chase as they beat Boston 6-2 to win their ninth straight game; Seattle nips Los Angeles 2-1; Detroit ties Chicago for first place in the AL Central with a 4-2 win and a series sweep; Kansas City downs Minnesota 6-4 and Texas beats Cleveland 8-3.
