The SEC holds its annual meetings, honors from the SEC for Gator baseball, playoff results and more in our Wednesday Sports Update…
** The SEC’s annual meetings are taking place in Destin, Florida with some of the topics to be discussed sure to be future scheduling, action on the so called full cost of attending college for athletes and more.
** The start time for the annual Florida-Georgia football game has been set for 3:30pm and the game will be on CBS.
** The SEC coaches have named Florida baseball coach Kevin O’Sullivan as the SEC Coach of the Year and pitcher Logan Shore the SEC Freshman of the Year. Shore and catcher Taylor Gushue were named to the All-SEC first team.
Florida junior triple jumper Ciarra Brewer is selected as the SEC’s Co-Field Athlete of the Year. Brewer, along with Cory McGee and Fawn Miller were named to the All-SEC first team. The Gators had two All-SEC first team selections in Stipe Zinic and Marquis Dendy.
** The Jacksonville Jaguars have begun their first offseason practice sessions with prized draft pick, quarterback Blake Bortles, taking snaps with the second unit behind veteran Chad Henne.
** Kevin Westbrook scores 40 points as the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the San Antonio Spurs 105-92 to even that NBA playoff series at 2-2. Tonight, Miami can eliminate Indiana and go to the NBA Finals with a win.
** The Montreal Canadiens stay alive in the NHL playoffs with a 7-4 win over the New York Rangers who still lead the series 3-2. Tonight, Los Angeles can go to the Stanley Cup Finals with a win over Chicago.
** In baseball, Mark Buehrle becomes the first nine game winner in baseball as he and the Toronto Blue Jays beat Tampa Bay 9-6. Boston beat Atlanta 6-3 and Miami was rained out.
** The French Open continues today after women’s second seed Li Na and Caroline Wozniacki were beaten; the top men’s seeds that played advanced.
