The Florida baseball team entered Friday night’s opening game SEC series at Ole Miss at 19-3 overall and with a 2-1 SEC record. The Orange and Blue sent sophomore ace Logan Shore to the mound in Game 1 who was looking for his fourth win this season. Unfortunately for Shore and the Gators, Ole Miss snagged the win by a final of 4 to 1.
Florida fell behind early in this one when Ole Miss’ J.B. Woodman sent a homer to deep right to give the Rebels a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Shore was pulled in the fourth inning but he did not give up another run.
Ole Miss extended its lead in the sixth inning when catcher Austin Knight drove in two runs with a single up the middle.
Gator coach Kevin O’Sullivan said it wasn’t the best of starts for Shore.
“Everything was up. He had a tough night. We have a long week ahead of us — we have to get him going. I think next week we have Thursday, Friday, Saturday weekend and we have to get him going.”
Florida catcher Mike Rivera drove home the only Gator run with a double in the seventh inning as the Gator offense did little throughout much of the night.
The Gators will look to bounce back today in Game 2 of the series; live coverage can be heard on ESPN 850 WRUF starting at 2:25 pm.
