Stanley Cup playoffs, NBA Finals, another award for a Gator softball player and more in our Thursday Sports Update…
** UF softball player Lauren Haeger receives the Honda Award, symbolic of being named the best female player in the sport. She joins other Gators like gymnasts Kytra Hunter and Bridget Sloan who have also won the award, as did Gator softball player Kelsey Bruder in 2011.
** The Gator track teams are in the second day of the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The men competed yesterday and the women will compete today.
** A total of nine Gator baseball players were drafted in the now concluded MLB Draft. Pitchers Bobby Poyner, Mike Vinson and Aaron Rhodes were drafted on Wednesday as were several Gator signees like pitchers Michael Zimmerman and Hunter Bowling and infielders Jonathan India and Deacon Liput.
** Game 4 of the NBA Finals is tonight as Cleveland hosts Golden State up 2-1 in the series.
** The Stanley Cup Final is tied 2-2 after Chicago beat Tampa Bay 2-1 last night in Chicago. Game 5 is Saturday.
** In baseball, Atlanta downs San Diego 4-1; Toronto downs Miami 7-2 and Tampa Bay beats the LA Angels 4-2.
