** Rutgers hands South Florida its first loss of the year in college football with a 23-13 win in Tampa over the turnover prone Bulls.

** In the NFL, Aaron Rodgers threw for a touchdown as Green Bay stifles Chicago 23-10 as both teams are now 1-1 on the year.

** Connecticut men’s basketball coach Jim Calhoun officially retires at the age of 70 after winning three national titles.   Assistant Kevin Ollie will take over.

** One local high school game on Thursday sees St. Francis lost 48-40 to Florida School For The Deaf in St.Augustine.

** Gator volleyball and soccer open their respective SEC seasons on the road this weekend.
