Gator Sports, High School Hoops In Sports Update

A lot of Gator sports activity this weekend heads up our Friday Sports Update…

** The number one ranked Gator softball team is in a tournament in Las Vegas this weekend; the team will play two games today.   Also, Gator track, lacrosse, gymnastics and baseball will be in action.

** In area high school hoops, GHS, Eastside, Fort White and Santa Fe move on with wins last night in boys regional quarterfinal action.   Tonight, PK Yonge, Hawthorne and Chiefland play in regional finals.

** In SEC men’s hoops, Missouri wins a nail biter at home 86-85 over Arkansas and South Carolina tops Vanderbilt 65-59.

** The NBA All-Star Weekend is coming up this weekend; former Gators Brad Beal and Joakim Noah will be participating.

** The Tampa Bay Rays trade catcher Jose Lobaton to the Washington Nationals for pitcher Nathan Karns.

** Ocala’s Brittany Bowe finishes eighth in speed skating’s 1,000 meter event at the Winter Olympics.   She will have another chance of getting a medal later in the Games.
