World Cup Semifinals, Baseball, Hoops In Sports Update

A lot of different things in the sports world to talk about today in our Tuesday Sports Update…

** The World Cup semifinals begin today as Brazil faces Germany; ESPN 850 WRUF has live coverage starting at 3:30pm.   Tomorrow, Netherlands and Argentina square off and we’ll have live coverage of that match as well at 3:30pm.

** The Miami Heat, looking to re-sign its Big Three, have apparently come to contract terms with free agents Danny Granger and Josh McRoberts.  No word yet on anything LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony.

** ESPN is reporting that the Orlando Magic have signed free agent forward Channing Frye, a forward who played for the Phoenix Suns last season.  The deal is reportedly a four year deal worth about $32 million.

** The NBA vs. Donald Sterling trial is underway in Los Angeles.   The trial is taking place as a way for the league to force Sterling out as owner of the Los Angeles Clippers.

** In baseball, former Rays pitcher James Shields was terrific as his Kansas City Royals beat the Rays 6-0 on Monday.   Atlanta lost 4-3 to the New York Mets and Miami loses 9-1 at Arizona.

** The NCAA has “suggested” contact limits during practices preparing for regular season games.   The NCAA is asking that at most just two contact practices be conducted during game weeks but there were also suggestions made to limit contact practices during preseason and spring football.
