The University of Florida football team used a solid defensive performance to escape Knoxville, Tennessee with a 10-9 win over the Vols, the 10th straight win for the Gators in the series.
Things did not look good for Florida early, as turnovers allowed Tennessee to get out to a 9-0 lead. However, the Gator defense kept the Vols out the end zone and also intercepted a pass near their own end zone to repel another possible Tennessee score.
True freshman quarterback Treon Harris replaced a struggling Jeff Driskel at quarterback late in the third quarter and he led the Gators to their 10 points late in the game. After the game, Gator coach Will Muschamp was non-committal as to which quarterback will start next week at home against LSU.
Florida got a nice performance from running back Matt Jones, who ran for over 100 yards in the win.
Florida improves to 2-1 in the SEC and to 3-1 overall. The Vols have now lost their only two SEC games of the year.
The Gators will host LSU next week.
