The Lafayette Hornets softball team can be called state champions today after it downed Jay 12-9 Tuesday at the state tournament being played in Clermont. The Hornets capture the Class 1A crown with the win.
In area baseball regional semifinals, Willison beats Santa Fe for the fourth time this year with a 1-0 win that moves them to a host game against Orlando Bishop Moore Friday in Class 4A, Region 2 play.
In other games, Union County beats Wildwood 8-0 in the Class 1A, Regiona 4 semifinals; the Tigers now host The Villages on Friday. The Villages eliminated Newberry 8-1.
In Class 7A, Regiona 1, Buchholz will play at Tallahassee Chiles today after rain forced postponement of their game last night.
PK Yonge beats Daytona Beach Father Lopez 5-1 in the Class 3A, Region 1 semifinals; the Blue Wave now go on the road to Jacksonville Providence on Friday.
And Lafayette tops Trenton 3-1 to move on in the Class 1A, Region 3 semifinals. The Hornets will travel to face Hilliard Friday.
