At the start of the college football season, there was hardly a Gator football player to be found on any preseason All-SEC teams.
But after an 11-1 regular season, several Gators are selected first team All-SEC by the Associated Press. On offense, running back Mike Gillislee and tight end Jordan Reed are selected while on defense safety Matt Elam and defensive lineman Sharrif Floyd are selected.
Both of Florida’s kickers are selected as well in punter Kyle Christy and placekicker Caleb Sturgis. In fact, both Sturgis and Christy are finalists for national awards; Sturgis is one of three finalists for the Lou Groza Award and Christy for the Ray Guy Award.
Making the AP All-SEC second team is defensive back Marcus Roberson.
Three Gators were also named All Americans by CBSSports.com in Elam, Sturgis and Christy.
