Thursday Sports Update

By on November 21st, 2013

A big baseball trade, new developments in a case involving FSU’s quarterback, NBA results and more in our Thursday Sports update.

** A rare trade in Major League Baseball involving a big name player; the Detroit Tigers send first baseman Prince Fielder to the Texas Rangers in exchange for second baseman Ian Kinsler.

** In other MLB news, New York Yankee infielder Alex Rodriguez walks out of a meeting with an arbitrator and MLB representatives after the arbitrator ruled the commissioner did not have to testify to the attorneys for Rodriguez.   Rodriguez is appealing the 211 game suspension handed to him by the commissioner.

** New developments in Tallahassee concerning the case involving FSU quarterback Jameis Winston.   An attorney for the woman involved in the case sharply criticized the Tallahassee police department for apparently telling the woman that Tallahassee is ” a big football town and the victim needs to think long and hard before proceeding against him because she will be raked over the coals and her life will be made miserable.”  The news was first reported by the Tampa Bay Times.  Winston has not been charged in the case.

** The Miami Heat down the Orlando Magic 120-92 in Orlando.   LeBron James scores 21 and Chris Bosh adds 18 in the win.

** Two former Gator football players have found new NFL homes.   Running back Chris Rainey is signed by Indianapolis and defensive end Jermaine Cunningham is picked up by the New York Jets.

** Thursday night NFL football has New Orleans facing Atlanta.

** UCF plays tonight as well, taking on Rutgers.   The Golden Knights need to keep winning to have a shot at a BCS bowl berth.
