The Miami Hurricanes fired head football coach Al Golden on Sunday following the team’s blowout loss to Clemson.
Miami lost to then sixth ranked Clemson 58-0 on Saturday. The loss was the worst in school history.
“They outplayed us,” Golden said following the loss. “They outcoached us. Again, I just told the team, it’s completely my responsibility for not getting them ready to play. They just beat us soundly in every facet of the game. Period.”
Golden was in his fifth season as head coach after being hired in 2010. He inherited a team under investigation from the NCAA related to a former booster providing improper benefits.
In his four and a half seasons as head coach, Golden accumulated a 32-25 record with a 17-18 record in ACC play. Miami’s record this season prior to Golden’s termination was 4-3.
Tight ends coach Larry Scott will serve as interim head coach.
For now, Miami will be in search of a new head coach who can lead a program that dominated during the 1980s and 1990s back to relevance.
The Hurricanes will face 22nd ranked Duke this Saturday in North Carolina.
