The win increases Atlanta’s wild card lead over the Giants to six games in the National League.

In the American League, Boston and Tampa Bay split a doubleheader with Boston winning the day game 3-1 and the Rays the night game 6-2. New York takes over first place in the AL East by half a game after beating slumping Kansas City 9-7.
In other AL games, Justin Verlander becomes baseball’s first 18 game winner as Detroit downs Minnesota 7-1; Toronton gets Jose Bautista’s 35th homer to defeat Seattle 13-7 and Texas increases its AL West lead over Los Angeles with a 7-3 win. Chicago downs Cleveland 8-7 and Oakland stops Baltimore 8-4.
