The NCAA Board of Directors meets today in Indianapolis and there could be some sweeping legislation passed involving multiple sports.
If passed, the Academic Progress Rate rolling number, now at 900, could be moved up to 930 with schools not meeting that number axed from bowl games or NCAA Tournaments.
The NCAA president, Mark Emmert, has supported a measure that would add about two thousand dollars to scholarships to cover the so called “full cost of attendance” that would cover more than the traditional books and room and board.
Multi year scholarships would also be an option; currently, scholarships are offered year to year.
Tougher academic standards could also be put in place, as a proposal could require high school seniors to carry a 2.3 grade point average as oppposed to the 2.0 requirement now. Junior college transfers could have to carry a 2.5 GPA.
