The Florida swimming and diving team will head to Columbus, Ohio for the third annual Ohio State Invitational. The meet will run Friday, Nov. 30 through Sunday, Dec. 2 at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Competitors from as many as 13 universities will be will be represented at this year’s invite.
Florida’s swimming and diving has had a successful fall season; the men’s team is currently ranked first overall. Gator coach Gregg Troy says it is a nice honor but no big deal.
“For the men’s team, it’s nice to be number one in October, November but it doesn’t mean a whole lot. I think it’s well deserved from the standpoint of the dual meets. We have a very good dual meet team. Whether we can do that in a championship format that has yet to be seen.”
Troy says the fall season went well for the women as well; despite the fact they lost twice, the team is not discouraged for the rest of the season.
“They have both proved themselves as being very good teams…I don’t think there’s a rivalry from that standpoint. I think the women are a little disappointed, their losses are to the one and two teams,” Troy said. “They feel good about it from that standpoint. We competed real well in those but not so good that we fell a little short”.
Troy knows the team has a long season ahead of them, but he hopes they will put up impressive times knowing that December is not necessarily prime swimming time.
