Some of the pennant races and wild card races may not be decided until the very end of the big league baseabll season. With only about a dozen games remaining in the regular year, some races are still up for grabs.
In the American League East, New York maintains a one game lead over Baltimore; the Yankees lost to Oakland 5-4 Sunday but Baltimore lost 2-1 to Boston. Tonight, Toronto begins a series in Baltimore while New York travels to face Minnesota.
In the AL Central, Chicago holds a one game lead over Detroit. The Tigers lost a doubleheader to Minnesota Sunday while Chicago lost 4-1 to Los Angeles. Chicago hosts Cleveland tonight while Detroit hosts Kansas City. Baltimore has a one game lead over Oakland for the first wild card and the A’s lead the Angels by two and a half games for the second spot. Tampa Bay is three and a half games back.
In the National League, Atlanta has a wild card spot just about in the bag after beating Philadelphia 2-1 as Tim Hudson wins his 16th game. The Braves trail Washington by four and a half games in the NL East; the Braves are off today while the Nats host Milwaukee tonight.
The second wild card finds St.Louis leading the Brewers by two and a half games and the Los Angeles Dodgers by three games. Kyle Lohse wins his 16th game Sunday as the Cardinals beat Chicago 6-3 while LA beat Cincinnati 5-3 and Milwaukee beat Washington 6-2. The Dodgers are off today while the Cardinals start a series today in Houston.
