After spending the past two weekends at home, the Gator soccer team may just have their biggest test of the season starting on Friday. Florida (8-3-1) is currently ranked 18th in the NSCAA coaches poll and first plays at LSU (5-4-4) before jumping on the bus to face fifth ranked Texas A&M (11-1-1) on Sunday.
Gators head coach Becky Burleigh hopes the formula the team has used in their previous five wins will carry over to these next two games. She attributes consistency on offense as a key to their season long success.
Six of Florida’s eight wins have been by two goals or less, but Burleigh is fine with that. As long as the defense is playing at a high level, the Gators have a chance to win every week.
Both LSU and Texas A&M are capable of running up the score early on, and Burliegh has preached all season about being the more aggressive team. She says her worst fear in these next two games is getting behind on the scoreboard.
The five game win streak is the longest streak of the season, but Burliegh is not content with the team’s record. She believes even with just seven games left until the SEC tournament, this team still has a lot of room for improvement.
That added push starts Friday night and can be heard on ESPN Radio 850/900 starting at 7:20 pm; you can hear the Texas A&M matchup Sunday at 1:20 pm.
