The football game between the South Carolina Gamecocks and LSU Tigers this Saturday has been moved from Columbia, South Carolina to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The move is a result of the severe flooding in the state of South Carolina.
South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier says the team is fine with the move.
“We want to do what’s right, what’s best for all concerned,” Spurrier said. “Wherever is the right place for us to play this game, we’re for it.”
Spurrier says classes have been suspended all week, but the players have still been able to lift weights and practice.
Despite the challenges, for Spurrier, the biggest challenge is still LSU.
“[LSU has] a big strong defense,” Spurrier said. “They run the ball down everybody’s throat. They [have] an excellent kicking game. Their punt returner [and] kickoff return guys are some of the best.”
South Carolina is currently winless in the SEC, with a 2-3 record overall.
Meanwhile, LSU is 4-0 and ranked No. 7 in the AP Poll.
Much of LSU’s success can be attributed to running back Leonard Fournette, who leads the FBS (Division I-A) with 864 total rushing yards.
LSU coach Les Miles says Fournette is very dedicated.
“[Fournette] comes to work every day,” Miles said. “He’s a guy that looks at how he plays, how he runs and how he can improve. He’s never satisfied.”
Kickoff time for the game has not yet been determined, but should be released later.
